Emulating After the Pros for Final Cover
Emulating After the Pros for Final Cover
Recently, I submitted my final revision for my double-page spread to my table of contents and now finally for my magazine cover. The grade that I recieved for my magazine was A and it was the only one out of my assigned portfolio that I felt confident about and had the least revisions. I did a few changes to the cover, but overall I think it consisted of basic emotions: emotion, color scheme, visuals, and inside page teases.
Despite my grade, there is always room for improvement. For this cover on the right, I really paid attention to the banner on the bottom that previews a sneak peak, which again draws the audience into buying the magazine. There's also a small anchorage text caption that I was thinking of incorporating into my cover IF I decide to remodel it and it'd make my cover look more youthful. I also like the mini headers and subheads on the right because of how compelling and brief it is. Overall, the very bright color scheme alongside the main visual creates this happy vibe which is what I'd like to potray.
On the left is one of my favorite magazines because of the whole concept that I want to portray. I really like how the heading "Traveling Route 66" is centered. My header for my main visual looks boring and could be positioned or changed in a creative way. I also really love the undertones of the masthead and how it is different shades of yellow each letter. It goes well with the main visual of a corner store, bringing a sense of nostalgia. Although this cover lacks page features, there are some mini previews up top that do make up for the negative space in the page. Overall, the color scheme of this professional cover is very nice and vibrant. I would also take some of this positioning feature and see if I can apply it to any of the other pages for my magazine portfolio.
Even though this blog mostly models from the pro's of a magazine COVER, these features are certainly relevant and useful to go back on the inside of my pages. Analyzing these professionals really allows me to grasp this concept better and apply it with a free mind of experimentation.
