Modeling Double-Page Spread from the Pros

Modeling Double-Page Spread from the Pros

My recent blogs mainly consisted of drafting ideas or planning what I wanted to do for my double page spread. However, it is now time to get some actual inspiration from a magazine that designs their double page spreads the best.  I grabbed two examples from Magzter, one in relation to my theme and the other just for a wide-ranged scope of design.

Reminisce, a magazine that I most commonly reference in my blogs. I really love this double page spread design. I'm going to carefully digest the content and overall elements of what makes this spread. This magazine's purpose is to look back on the memories and for this specific magazine it is what you used to love doing. On the right, the boy loved to act as Elvis while some others on the right loved to sew or do a  neighborhood friendly job. As you can see to the right of the text, there are four pictures each containing its own story. A big black border separates the two pages in the middle. There are also plenty of borders separating the words/stories on the right as well as the left. This magazine does a good job with making a catchy title for each story and drop caps to visually appeal to the reader. Furthermore, there is a consistent color scheme of blue and red to highlight important names or landscapes. What I really love about this magazine is that it includes stories of people and implements the state that they are living in. The picture on the left page is the main focus as it is the only one in color.

On the left is a double page spread from the magazine, Life & Style US. This magazine's purpose is to talk about the crave or hottest information in the United States. This magazine does a good job with adding the main story, Taylor Swift and her American football player boyfriend. Although our teacher advised us to not have a picture taking up one page, it keeps a consistent color theme. Pink and white is spread throughout the page as it is talking about the love between Taylor and her boyfriend. The text is also formatted into three columns and there is an extra visual added on the side, mirroring the elements of an advanced copy. It is hard to see in the photo, but the visual on the right contains a pull out quote which is very authentic.
