Reassessing my Entire Magazine for Midterm
Reassessing my Entire Magazine for Midterm
On December 9th, the last part of our magazine, the table of contents was submitted to our teacher for feedback. Immediately after that assignment was done, it was very clear to all the students in this course that we needed to revise the pages. Midterms are next week before Christmas break; so the cover, the double-page spread, and the contents should be revised and set before 2025. Our teacher gave a good suggestion: Focus and put your most of your effort in the pages that didn’t receive an A.
As stated before in previous blogs, my magazine cover was given a very high grade which means I have little things to tweak for that one. I may add page numbers next to the coverline or change the cover lines slightly so that it will match up with my table of contents.
My table of contents, which I recently finished for a grade, got a B+ solely because I didn’t have a headline that really said what my magazine was going to be about. I’m in the process of figuring out the placement for that headline, so I may review previous works from the pro’s again. I also have a disdain for the background color as I feel like the color scheme should be darker based on the cool toned colors in the magazine color. Another worry that I have is the subheadings, I feel as if it is worded too ordinary or it doesn’t fit the category. Lastly, I am struggling with the page numbers for each content page because my double-page spread is unorganized and it must match up with what is being shown.
Now to the hardest page of all, the double page spread is the one that I believe I got a bad grade out of all three rough drafts. I tried to mock a style from one of the pages in Reminisce magazine, consisting of a main story on the left and other little stories on the right. However, it wasn’t the style of a traditional magazine and it would’ve been better to add some information about memories. In my table of contents, I will feature a page that explains my theme in depth, but I want my double-page spread to be about people submitting their nostalgic experiences. Simultaneously, I can explain the theme alongside a feature story and even make a little “advanced copy” tab on the page where it states: “See this page for more information on….”. I also struggled with the background design because it looked too plain, so I thought it was wise to add a photo-strip related design. There is so much more to be discussed, and this blog helped me to improve my whole magazine. An example of what I've done so far shown down below:
