Drafting Ideas for my Double-Page Spread
Drafting Ideas for my Double-Page Spread
The inside of any magazine is what I believe will be the hardest mental image to transfer. In our class, we have a double spread page that is due in two weeks from now. It may seem like a lot of time to some people, but there is a lot of designing and effort put into researching information for my magazine. For example, I need to understand what columns or advanced copies mean in magazine terminology. Magzter is a site that I frequently reference because it shows the inside pages of a magazine which will aid my creative plans for the page spread. The color scheme, the story, and the photos/columns should be carefully taken into consideration so that the interior of my magazine will match the cover.
My rough draft magazine cover is a picture of me and my mother at Disney with the Cinderella castle towering behind it. The cover has a not so dark but faded background look along with colors of pink, white, and purple implemented into the font lettering. So, I would expect my magazine to maintain the colors of at least pink or purple with a dark background. The interior could also work with a white background, however, it won't really match the color.
Onto the story, I was thinking of something related to memories. So, it could be an old photo preferably black and white of someone recalling a certain memory. To keep a consistent theme of happiness in this photo, I’ll try to find a person who can provide images and a detailed story of a nice occurrence that shaped them into growing up.
Lastly, the design of the interior is also a part that I might struggle on. In other magazines, I see the first letter of a word bigger than the rest and it is also in a specific color. I have to find a catchy title and may even consider shortening my story to add other columns. There might be space to add a little game Q&A or a crossword consisting of topics people of the current generation grew up on. Overall, I still need more research and inspiration from pros to curate my double page spread. This advice will severely aid my understanding in design and creating a visually connected magazine.
