Wrapping up the Theme Workshop Process
Wrapping up the Theme Workshop Process
Finding a theme was the hardest part of the process.
As I mentioned in my first blog, I didn't really have any ideas or qualities that were consistent throughout my life nor was it something I was THAT passionate about. However, an assignment was given in our class to help narrow it down. It was to create a five lists: what you cherished the most, how do people perceive you, what are your strengths, what do you want to change in the world, and find a phrase that you liked in over 4000 yearbooks. My answers to these questions were around the vicinity of : I like hanging out with my family, I'm introverted, I like to work hard to get nice grades, and I'm against socio economic problems.
Furthermore, I narrowed down the phrases in 4000+ years books to three choices that summarize down to: live your life in the moment, don't stress yourself to a point where you can't look back, and relish in your memories. After a few minutes of tweaking the original phrase, I came up with my theme. My theme for my magazine is that every memory is important and should be cherished even if it is irregular or upsetting because they are pieces of each unique person in society. The theme was visualized on a shirt and also made into a magazine cover.
Now that I finished explaining the process, I've truly fought for this theme because of the nostalgic feeling memories induce on me. I often stress over work from my rigorous classes, and I get anxious from certain situations which causes me to not really enjoy school like most people should. When I look back on my past memories from 16 years to an a young child in my camera roll: I had happy. funny, and embarrassing moments in the midst of it all. Hence, I plan to map out my portfolio by incorporating certain events that shaped us just like the image above, a magazine that remembers the "good old days". Examples may include pictures that indicate growing up, birthday parties, hanging out with family or friends, graduating high/middle school, and etc. The whole purpose is look back on what happened in the past and see how the events molded you.
